Mirror

A mirror is read as a reflection-image: how you currently appear, or how accurately you are seeing something. Mirrors are Metal objects — polished, cutting, exact. The reading turns on whether the reflection matches: a clear mirror, a fogged one and one showing someone else are three different statements.

It points to a function rather than an event. A mirror is read as a reflection-image: how you currently appear, or how accurately you are seeing something. Traditional readings ask what the object is for and whether it is working, rather than treating it as a sign. A mirror that shows a room behind you rather than your face is recorded often enough to have its own reading: the dream is pointing at a setting, not at you.

In Chinese tradition mirrors also have an apotropaic role, hung to turn back what approaches. That older function survives in the dream reading, where the mirror is less about vanity and more about what is being turned back at you. It is grouped under Metal (金) in the five-element system.
