Rabbit in Love

The folk reading gives the rabbit warmth in relationships, and pairs it with the goat, dog and pig. The pairings come from the branch scheme; the characterisation follows the animal's attributed temperament.

It is one factor among several in the traditional system. The folk reading gives the rabbit warmth in relationships, and pairs it with the goat, dog and pig. The year animal is the coarsest of the four pillars — the month, day and hour carry equal weight, and the classical sources never read the year alone. The tradition describes affinity as ease of relationship rather than as destiny — the pairing is a statement about a dynamic.

The three-fold affinity groups the rabbit with the goat and pig, which is the basis of the pairing. It is grouped under Wood (木) in the five-element system.
