Door

A door is read as a transition — a boundary you can cross, rather than the destination on the other side. Doors belong to Wood, the element of growth and passage. The reading depends almost entirely on state: open, shut, locked, or a door you cannot decide about.

It points to a function rather than an event. A door is read as a transition — a boundary you can cross, rather than the destination on the other side. Traditional readings ask what the object is for and whether it is working, rather than treating it as a sign. A door that opens onto the wrong room — a familiar room behind an unfamiliar door — appears frequently in dream records and is read as an outcome that does not match the route taken to it.

Chinese sources pair the door with the threshold, which is itself a protected boundary in domestic practice. A door that opens on its own is read differently from one you have to push. It is grouped under Wood (木) in the five-element system.
