Ice

Ice is read as something stopped mid-motion — water holding still, which can be preservation or a halt. Water made rigid. Traditional reading asks whether you walked on it or watched it break, since those are opposite relationships to the surface.

Natural features are read by state and conditions. Ice is read as something stopped mid-motion — water holding still, which can be preservation or a halt. Traditional readings look at whether it is calm or disturbed, near or distant. Clear ice with something visible frozen inside is a reported variant, read as a halt that has preserved rather than destroyed.

Sources treat ice by its reliability: ice that holds and ice that gives are the two cases, and thickness is the variable named. It is grouped under Water (水) in the five-element system.
