Red

Red is read as Fire made visible — the colour of activity at full strength, and of things that announce themselves. In the five-element map red belongs to Fire, to the south and to summer. Traditional reading asks what was red: a red object, a red sky and red cloth are three different statements.

Color is read through the five-element system. Red is read as Fire made visible — the colour of activity at full strength, and of things that announce themselves. Red corresponds to Fire (火), which shapes how it is interpreted. Red that appears only on one thing in an otherwise colourless scene is the most reported variant, read as a specific element marked out from its surroundings.

Chinese sources treat red as auspicious in the domestic register — it is the colour of weddings and of new year — while also carrying Fire's associations with heat and display. It is grouped under Fire (火) in the five-element system.
