Grey

Grey is read as Metal wearing toward white — a reduction in progress rather than completed. Between black and white, grey is read as a stage. Traditional reading asks whether it was lightening or darkening, since direction is the whole meaning.

Color is read through the five-element system. Grey is read as Metal wearing toward white — a reduction in progress rather than completed. Grey corresponds to Metal (金), which shapes how it is interpreted. A scene entirely in grey with one coloured object is a widely reported variant, read as a single thing distinguished from an indeterminate field.

Sources treat grey as the colour of the indeterminate, and the notable case is grey that resolves into one of its two ends. It is grouped under Metal (金) in the five-element system.
