Spider

Construction, and the question of who is caught. The spider builds and then waits inside what it built. It carries Earth — the element of the made thing, of structure and of the middle of the cycle.

In the traditional vocabulary it is not read as a warning. Construction, and the question of who is caught. The animal is treated as a description of a situation — usually involving timing or a person — not as a prediction. What distinguishes a spider dream from other insect dreams is the web — the structure is nearly always the part the dreamer remembers, not the animal.

Traditional readings are divided. In some strands the spider is patience and craft; in others it is entanglement. The difference usually turns on whether the dreamer wove the web or found it. It is grouped under Earth (土) in the five-element system.
